A tick is an insect that is several millimeters in size. A tick feeds on the blood it sucks from cats and dogs. A engorged female can become 8-10 mm in size . In that state it looks like a grey broad bean.
The Ixodes ricinus tick is the most common tick in the Netherlands. This tick carries the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi. When sucking blood this bacteria can be transmitted . The bacetria can cause Lyme disease. It is estimated that about 20-30% of adult ticks is infected with this bacteria. The actual infection can take place about 24 hours after the tick has attached itself. For the elimination of ticks it is therefore important to use a formula that kills ticks immediately when they try to attach themselves. This way, infection is prevented and the (dead) tick falls of your pet. Lyme can cause the following symptoms in your pet: joint problems, fever and loss of appetite (lethargic).
